We’re excited to introduce you to the newest member of our team. South Florida, meet our new Head Brewer, Marco Reyna! Marco joined our team in early May, diving in head first into day-to-day brewing operations. Marco hails from Chicago, IL (his hometown) where he began his career as an intern at Revolution Brewing. His passion for beer brought him to Asheville, NC where he spent time working for Wicked Weed, then headed south to join us here in Miami.
We sat down for a little Q&A with Marco to get to know him a little better. Here’s what we learned:
Q: What was the first beer you tasted and/or brewed that made you realize craft beer was going to be a part of your life?
A: Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. It felt like a lightbulb moment about what beer should be like. Shortly after, I started home brewing then realized that I can make a career out of it.
Q: Looking at all of the crazy equipment we have here, what gets you the most excited?
A: The canning line! I love that it can change can size from 8.5oz to 16oz cans, it keeps us on our toes when we run the canning line.
Q: Are there styles of beer that you prefer to brew over others?
A: The styles that I am most excited to drink myself! European styles, bright and aromatic IPAs, imperial stouts and porters.
Q: What is your favorite traditional beer style?
A: Huge advocate of German style beers like Hefeweizens.
Q: What Miami-style flavors are you most excited to brew?
A: Excited to work with the fruits down here like mangoes and would love to use papaya too.
Q: What’s your favorite spot in Miami (so far)?
A: Lou’s Beer Garden near Surfside
Q: Describe yourself in one word.
Next time you’re at the Social Hall, make sure to say hi to Marco. We promise he won’t bite.
