Beer, my first love.

Beer. My first true love… but I do know a woman that would be upset if she read that. All kidding aside, craft beer is a fairly new revolution in Miami, but my love started long ago. I come from a small town in Tennessee where light beer was king. I would get lucky every now and then and would run into a place that had Fat Tire or Blue Moon. Those were awesome beers at the time, but after a while I was yearning for something more.

It took a graduation trip to Colorado and a little brewery called Avery to make me fall in love. I was just blown away with all the different styles that they had to offer. Being a whiskey man before I started dating craft beer, I fell in love with a beer called Tweak. This beer really hit home for me because it was an imperial stout aged in bourbon barrels that had an ABV that would even make my mountain-man-of-a-grandpop stutter.

Here at Concrete Beach we obviously have a very passionate group that also really loves craft beer, so I sat down with a few people from our team to hear their passion story, and of course see which Concrete Beach beer they’re crushin’ on.

What was that one beer or brewery that sparked your passion for craft beer?

First trip to World of Beer, 6 years ago. Had no idea how big the craft beer world was! All I wanted to do was get as many points as I could on my WOB card, but it wasn’t until a beer called Hop Gun that I actually decided to visit a local brewery. Blown away that such good beers were made right where I live, I started visiting more and more. The staff always ask me what cool breweries are in South Florida because I have been to most of them! I applied at Concrete Beach soon after and picked up home-brewing.

The reason why I work here is for our Mas Hops, but now I have to admit that I’m hooked on Tropic of Passion. Easy drinking with a touch of passion fruit. It’s like a beach party in my mouth.

Well I worked at a local place that had a ton of rotating craft beer selections from all over the world! I got try everything from Anderson Valley to Mikkeller. The one beer that really got me hooked was Marshal Zhukov’s Imperial Stout. I usually order it whenever I see it on draught… only if they don’t have Concrete Beach J

There is a brewery in SoCal called Stone Brewing. They make this awesome beer called Arrogant Bastard that I am absolutely obsessed with. It is definitely my mistress.

This question was really easy about a week ago. I would have said Mas Hops without even thinking twice, but now after trying our new triple IPA The Dome, The Dummy, and The Dutch, I would have to say I am lost.

I am in the same boat as Gio, World of Beer started my addiction for craft beer. Dogfish Head was the first brewery that I really liked.

I would have to say Tropic of Passion. I usually bring a six pack whenever I go out fishing.
